THE POWER OF STORIES – & WHEN TO USE THEM
Overview reports have been criticised for revealing unnecessary detail about the family. The material remains in the public domain for a lengthy period. There is a clear family rights perspective. In SILP we reduce story telling in overview reports to a minimum. Our training and mentoring programme is unequivocal in its approach.
But should we use the story when we disseminate learning?
Safeguarding partners can demonstrate how they are learning from reviews without telling stories. We can understand the results they are achieving locally without compromising the family’s confidentiality.
So is it ever relevant to use the story? Is it defensible?
Asking your practitioners to consider strategic learning objectives over their tuna sandwich may be a turn off. The key to engaging them more effectively lies in harnessing the power of stories.
From healing disease, to impacting the world of corporate leadership or purely boosting buy in for market research, the power of story telling is a proven, research based technique.
